Workshops range from 1-3 days in length. These are professional development trainings that are interactive and designed to help participants deeply enhance their skills, knowledge, and competence in serving children and families across child-serving systems. It is expected following the workshop participants leave with applicable skills. Continuing Education Credit opportunities can be discussed
Cultural Humility Workshop
Focus. Focus of the workshop is diving deep into terms such as institutional racism, microaggressions, unconscious bias, discrimination, prejudice, individual racism, and privilege. The goal is for participants to learn how to engage in critical self-reflection, increase their self-awareness, and improve in their personal and professional lives as it relates to actions that can be taken towards enhancing equality.
Approach. The trainer uses personal storytelling combined with highlighting important research to bring these terms to life for participants. Feedback from past participants have praised the use of storytelling to help them truly understand the impact of the above terms.
Audience. This workshop has been delivered to staff, personnel, and licensed providers that work in schools, community mental health, hospitals, and juvenile rehabilitation facilities. Participant reviews have been overwhelmingly positive and can be shared upon request.
Duration. This workshop is designed to be delivered over 1-2 days, depending on the needs of the audience. When entering conversations about culture and race it is recommended to allow the facilitator time to build a relationship with the participants. In addition to the live training, follow-up and ongoing consultation can also be provided. Please discuss your needs with the trainer and we will develop a comprehensive training plan that suits your team.
Cognitive Behavior Therapy in Schools
Focus. This workshop primarily focuses on training school-based professionals with implementing Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) in the school setting. CBT is an evidence-based treatment that has been proven effective for use among children and adolescents who struggle with anxiety, depression, and stress, a few of the most common challenges children and adolescents deal with today. Instead of drawing upon specific manualized treatments, this training focuses on taking the core elements of several evidence-based treatments and trains providers how to deliver CBT in a school setting where some providers have at most 30 minutes with a student.
Approach. This workshop is highly interactive with a large focus on role plays and in-vivo practice with the trainer.
Duration & Options. There are two training workshops.
The first is a two-day workshop that focuses on teaching the core CBT principles. This is a good workshop for those who have little to no background with CBT.
The second is a two-day workshop that focuses on teaching the core principles of CBT in treating anxiety, depression, and trauma. This second workshop also provides training on managing difficult and oppositional behaviors using evidence-based behavioral management strategies. This is a good workshop for providers who have a strong foundation in CBT.
Audience. These workshops have been delivered across multiple SELPA’s (Special Education Local Plan), organizations and to school-based community mental health agencies. Reviews from previous trainings are available upon request. Please contact the trainer to discuss your team’s needs and we will develop a plan that fits the best.
